Women Fight
Trouble at Swinton
Elizabeth Barlow, married, of Piccadilly, Swinton, appeared before Messrs WH Hallett and A.E.M. Turner at Rotherham West Riding Court on Monday on a charge of having assaulted Florence May Bradley, who lives at 58, Piccadilly, on 22 May.
Florence Mary Bradley said the trouble arose out of a misunderstanding about the children’s balls. Defendant had said to witness a little girl, “Give me that ____ ball, or I will get you or your ____ mother.” Witness then told her child to give defendant the ball if it was there although she did not think it was.
Defendant then called witness names and cause such a disturbance that witness sent her little girl for the police. As the child was a long time coming back, she went to the end of the passage, as she did so Mrs Barlow hit her on the face with her face and knocked her head against the wall.
Florence Horner, aged 13, who lives close by, said she saw defendant hit Mrs Bradley and knock her head against the wall.
Fred G Morris, brother of defendant, said that Mrs Bradley went for Mrs Barlow, who struck back in self defence.
Alfred Barlow, husband of defending, and Alfred Barlow, son of defending, both said they saw Mrs Bradley kick Mrs Barlow, who then struck back
A fine of 15 shillings was imposed, together with five shillings towards the witnesses’ expenses.
