Swinton Street Betting.
Percy Lawton (39), a glass blower, of 29, Crossland Street Swinton, was at Rother ham West Riding Police Court on. Monday, fined £5 for having taken bets in the street at Station Street, on April 20th.
P.c. Noble said he was on duty in Station Street with Sergt Horn, when he saw Lawton near the canal bridge. Two men approached him and appeared to hand him slips. When cautioned, he said: “Well, I have only about half a dozen slips,” and produced seven slips. The slips related to racing that day. Lawton added, “Well, I’m in your hands.”
He was taken to Swinton police station where, on being searched, he was found to have £4 10s. 11d.
