Swinton Ladies’ Success.
Young Forward of Promise.
Swinton ladies are having another highly successful season in the first division of the Sheffield League competition and in the Sheffield Cup competition. Nar -Storth head the league table and Swinton are fourth but only a narrow margin separates them from second position. They promise to equal last years’ performances in the cup tournament they were finalist—for they have reached the fourth round. Several Swinton players have been Included in representative elevens and have been successful
It is singular that the district team to meet Yorkshire shortly does not contain a Swinton player.
The limited number of playing members of the club makes it imperative that each should hold herself in readiness each week and it is to their credit that all engagements are fulfilled. The happiness and prosperity of the club is largely due to the work of the secretary, Miss P. Sanderson, but the whole team is enthusiastic.
Miss Arksey is the “veteran” and a stalwart in defence; Miss Barber, at centre forward, is a ready scorer and she is admirably assisted by Miss Peggy Brearley (picture). Miss Brearley is only 15 years of age, but is already spoken of as a potential County player. Her judgement and deftness are notable for so young a player. Miss Dobson, the captain, Mrs. Oakland, Misses Tomlinson, Birks, Hek and Lanes are “ever presents” this season.
The club is a credit to Swinton sport.
