Swinton Betting.
Ernest Davy, (40), of 15, Foundry Yard, Swinton. was’ fined £5 at Rotherham’ West Riding Police Court on Monday for street betting at Station Road, Swinton, on Oct. 5th. The defendant pleaded guilty.
P.c. Allonby said be saw two men go up to defendant and give him money and slips. Re questioned him. Defendant replied. “It is the only thing I can do for a living.” He searched him and found 12 betting slips relating to horses running that day. When charged with the offence defendant replied,
“You are a right chap, taking a man’s living from him.” The defendant had no bookmaker’s certificate.
