One-run Win at Denaby

Denaby just managed to beat Elsecar by one run, when Denaby scored 71 against Elsecar’s 70. In Denaby’s total, chief scorers were Brown (28), and Vickers (10). On Elsecar’s side Bamforth carried his bat out for 31, having batted through the innings.

For Denaby, Wardle had 6 for 33, and Vickers 4 for 29. For Elsecar, White had 5 for 35 and Wroe 4 for 2.

Swinton Win “Feast” Derby

Mexborough suffered a home defeat at the hands of Swinton, on Saturday. The visitors put on 186 before declaring for the loss of six wickets. C. Lee topped the day’s scoring with 86, and another Swinton man, Barnett, got 35.

The first two Mexborough men put on 55 (Wilkinson 29, White 26), but C. Lawton (21) was the only comparable scorer in their total of 118. Cadman (3 for 39) and Ellison (3 for 40) were responsible for the fall of the Mexborough wickets. For Mexborough, Plummer had 2 for 33 and T. Hargreaves 3 for 59.

Alban Turner Again

Thanks to a double success by the Hickleton veteran, Alban Turner, who took 6 wickets for 20 runs and scored 47 with the bat, Hickleton gained a 5 wickets’ victory over Brodsworth on Saturday.

The visitors batted first and made 103 (L. Nutton 53 and H. Haslam 11). Hickleton lost H. Riley with two runs on. Then Turner joined by J. Hutchinson, put on 67 for the second wicket, the latter being out for 21. Turner, with Joe Riley, took the score to 81, Turner being caught behind the wicket three short of his 50. Hickleton reached 104 for 5 wickets (J. Riley 22).
