What Constable Came For.

When approached by P.c.. Baldwin, after having been seen taking slips and money at Rowms Lane. Swinton, at 2-10 p.m. on September 21st, Fred Roughton. 31, miner, of 1, Talbot Road, Swinton, asked “What do you come for?”

Roughton appeared at Rotherham ‘West Riding Police Court on Monday, when he was fined £3 for street betting.

P.c. Baldwin said he was on duty in plain clothes with P.c. Noble when he saw four men and Boughton what appeared to be slips and money. When searched Roughton had four slips and 22s. in cash in his possession. In answer to the charge he said “You have come at a bad time.
