Rockingham Beat the Champions

A confident battling display by H. Wroe was the principal feature in a spectacular victory by Rockingham in their opening match at Hoyland Common on Saturday when they beat Swinton, last year’s champions by 48 runs.

Batting first, Rockingham put on 109 and disposed of Swinton for 61.  In his 50 Wroe hit a six and seven fours.  J. Ivill, with 18, was the only other double figure contributor for the home team, Swinton were never really comfortable against the bowling of H. Fish, who took 6 for 26.

Parkin and Vickers, with 14 each, were the only two to reach double figures.  For Swinton Vickers took 5 for 29.
