Mr Luke Barber

Although it is nearly 25 years since Mr. Luke Barber gave up the licence of the Don Hotel, he is still kindly remembered by the older generation, and many old friends received the news of his death the other day with great regret.

He was a shrewd, sagacious man and something of an “inquest specialist.” Indeed, it is computed that he served as a juryman on over 400 inquests and was foreman on about 150. He had a good deal of sound knowledge and judgement, particularly with regard to mining practice, which made his services particularly useful and they were more than once publicly appreciated by the district coroner, Mr. J. Kenyon Parker.
