Obituary
Mr Edwin “Ted” Ardron
Swinton lost a notable personality by the death, which occurred suddenly at his home on Saturday, of Mr. Edwin Ardron, 25 Cliffe Field Road.
Until his health compelled his retirement about a year ago he had been in business as a fish fryer in Charles Street for 22 years.
A native of Swinton, Mr. Ardron was a deputy at Cortonwood Colliery until 25 years ago. He was for 25 years until recently a member of the Special Constabulary at Swinton. Many years ago he was treasurer of Swinton W.M.C. and he was a member of both that club and the Victoria Club.
Always keenly interested in the welfare of the old people, he was instrumental in bringing about a revival of the Old People’s Treat, and was interested in the Old Men’s Retreat in Bank Hose. A son, Major Edwin Ardron, is at present serving in West Africa.
Mr. Ardron leaves a widow, four sons and five daughters, all married.
Mr. J. Jagger of Swinton said “Swinton will be so much the poorer by the passing of “Ted” Ardron. During my long service for social activities in the town I have visited him on so many errands of mercy and never been turned empty away. He always gave liberally and ungrudgingly. He never made an enemy and never lost a friend. “
The funeral took place at Swinton on Wednesday, following a service at the Parish Church, conducted by the Rev. F. Smedley. A cortege was formed by members of the Old Men’s Retreat.
