Mr. W. H. Taylor
Head of Don Foundry
The death of Mr. William Henry Taylor, founder and senior partner of the firm of Taylor and Son, iron founders, the Don Foundry, Swinton, occurred at his home on Monday. Mr. Taylor, who was 69, collapsed at his office at work and was conveyed to his home, 29, Rowms Lane, Swinton where he died half an hour later.
Mr. Taylor was the son of a foundry worker, and with his father was employed at Messrs. Hattersley’s Queen’s Foundry, Swinton, until he set up his own foundry 20 years ago. He applied himself diligently to his trade and from a two-man concern it grew to its present size, now employing 36 men.
Football and cricket were near to Mr. Taylor’s heart. In sporting circles, he was known further afield than his native Swinton for which he played cricket as a left-handed batsman being affectionately known as “Nance” Taylor. At football he assisted Sheffield Wednesday and had taken the field on various occasions at Scarborough Cricket Festival. He had maintained his interest in sport. Mr. Taylor, whose first wife died in 1910, leaves a widow and one son, Mr. Wilfred Taylor, who will carry on the business.
