Mexborough Photographer to Wed Swinton Teacher

The engagement is this week announced of two young people very well known in the Mexborough district. They are Mr. Michael Thornton Walters, only son of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Walters, of Horncastle House, Adwick Road, Mexborough, and Miss Patricia Elizabeth Townsend, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. Townsend, of Sidney Street, Swinton.

Both for some time have been associated with the district Young Conservative Association. Mr. Walters on leaving Worksop College joined his father In the Mexborough photographic business of which he is principal.    He has specialised successfully in industrial photography, particularly in the service of those industries associated with coal. He is a member of Mexborough Round Table and vice-president of the North Midlands Institute of British photographers. He also holds the rank of Captain in the R.A.O.C. (Army Emergency Reserve).

Miss Townsend was trained for teaching at Stockwell College. After a period on the staff of Highgate Junior School, she joined the staff of the Milton Special School, Swinton. She is a member of the committee of the district Young Teachers’ Association of the National union of Teachers. Her father is headmaster of Queen Street School, Swinton.
