Cigarettes Stolen.
Swinton Man Fined.
For having stolen a packet of cigarettes from a counter of a Swinton billiards hall, John Wm. England, 21, of Swinton, was at Rotherham West Riding Police Court on Monday fined 21s.
P.c. Noble said he received a complaint from a man named Edwin Morgan, a billiards hall proprietor, of Perham Road, Rotherham, that cigarettes had been stolen from his saloon at Swinton.
On April 16th he saw England walk behind the counter and take a packet, of cigarettes. Witness approached him, and on the cigarettes being produced they were found to be the, same as witness had previously marked.
When charged he replied “I was hard up for money and I wanted some cigarettes.”
Defendant in court said he was the one who fell for the plan.
