Death Six Weeks After Accident
At an inquest at the Mexborough Montagu Hospital on Wednesday, the Doncaster District Coroner (Mr. W. N. Carlile) investigated the death of Garry Clifford Royle, 20 months old son of Eileen Royle. of 131, White Lee Road. Swinton, who died at the Montagu Hospital on Tuesday as a result of scalds received when hot liquid from a cup fell upon him on January 20th.
A verdict of ” Accidental Death ” was recorded.
Eileen Royle, mother, said she lived at 138, White Lee Road, Swinton, and was an assistant nurse. The boy was brought to Swinton about three months ago to stay at witness’s mother’s home, and when the mishap occurred witness returned home.
Jane Royle, of White Lee Road, Swinton, said the child had lived with her since December, 1940. On Monday. January 20th, she put a cup on the table and turned to get the kettle to add more water. The child must have pulled the cup over and was scalded on the neck.
The doctor ordered the child’s removal to Hospital when he died on March 4.
Mr J. G. Mar, resident surgeon at the Montagu Hospital said the child bad an Infected burn involving the right shoulder and neck which ran quite deep down to the muscles.
Death was due to toxaemia and sepsis following a burn
