Scholarship To York School
Distinction for Swinton Boy
A 13 years old Swinton boy has one £150 a year scholarship to St Peter’s School York.
He is Peter John Fenton, son of Mr and Mrs J. F. Mitchell, of “Chellward,” Rig Drive, Swinton, and he won the Riley Smith Scholarship — the second highest to be awarded at St. Peter’s—from Hill House School at Doncaster. He begins at his new school in September.
Peter has the distinction of being the first student at Hill House to gain a Riley-Smith scholarship.
Among Peter’s interests are puppetry and philately. At the age of 12, he wrote a prizewinning essay on careers for the Doncaster Careers Exhibition. Last year, he was put in charge of National Savings at Hill House and during his term of office £90 was collected.
Peter’s father, Mr. J. F. Mitchell, is a chemist and owns shops in Mexborough, Sheffield, Doncaster and Thrybergh.
