Hickleton Batsmen Baffled

Hart’s Brilliant Feat

Splendid bowling by Tom Hart (picture) had the Hickleton batsmen baffled at Thurnscoe, where Swinton were comfortable winners by four wickets. Bowling throughout Hart met with extraordinary success. How difficult the Hickleton players found his bowling and that of S. Cutts is shown by the fact that they took five minutes under two hours to score only 90 runs. Alban Turner made 15 in one of the most uncertain hours he has spent at the wicket. M. Silverwood was the only Hickleton man who appeared at all comfortable. He made a gallant effort to brighten the Hickleton innings. After 50 minutes only 25 runs were on the board, but Silverwood. aided by A. Senior took the score to 50 in 80 minutes. R. Probert gave a brief display of big hitting as did J. Skitt. Hart finished with the following average

0             M          R            W

20           11          26           8

Swinton their opponent’s total in an hour and a quarter. F. Price and R. Williams made a firm stand and hit the Probert brothers’ bowling quite freely. Turner bowled consistently well and took 3 for 16. Scores:
