Mexborough and Swinton Times September 30, 1927
A quaint wedding took place at the Zion Gospel Mission church, White Lee Rd, Swinton, on Tuesday, Mrs Elizabeth Kay with 78, was married to Mr Edwin Stead, aged 77.
Pasta J Waddle officiated, and commandant and Mrs a Evans were present on behalf of the Mexborough Corps of the Salvation Army. which the bridegroom is one of the oldest members.
The couple have lived as neighbours for some time in Moore’s Yard, Fitzwilliam Street, Swinton .
“It seems a bit funny,” Bryson confided to a “Times” reporter, “that we should be taking this step at our time of life, but we feel we would like to a nowadays peaceably together. We shall be very comfortable; we each have a little pension and we shall be all right.”
Mr Stead worked for over 60 years at the Manvers Main Colliery. His first wife died five years ago, and Mrs Kay’s first husband about a year ago.
