Wanted: Referees
Mr. Frank Worth, Mexborough F.A. competition secretary, was quietly optimistic about the season prospects when I saw him at his Swinton home this week.
He has only one worry. “we are very short of referees,” he said. There is a dearth of new and youthful recruits, and both Mr. Worth and his father, Mr. Ben Worth, the Association secretary, appealed for enthusiasts to come forward at once. Mr. Ben Worth said he would make arrangements with pleasure for applicants to undergo the referee’s examination.
That the position is serious is illustrated by Mr. Frank Worth’s statement that at the time of writing he still had three matches for Sept. 10th without referees. In the meantime he is hoping his call for new volunteers will have been answered.
