All the adjudicators, Dr C Armstrong Gibbs, Mr Morris Jacobson, Dr Eric Thiman (music) and Mr Ernest Welbeloved (verse speaking) were present at the Saturday evening session, and to the winners they presented the various trophies and monthly prizes.

Their adjudications were pointed, concise, constructive, witty….and critical

For Mrs Vivian Scott (nee Parnham) and Mr Kenneth Griffith there was much to say that was of a highly complemented nature. These two singers, soprano and baritone were opposed – as they were last year – in the oratorio class, which Mr Griffiths was placed first three marks ahead of Mrs Scott, but against two other women competitors, Mrs Scott, who the previous evening had come specially to Mexborough for the competition from her new London home, gained third place in the operatic class which followed.

Of Mrs Scott, Mr Jackson (in the oratorio class) said: “This was a delightful singer, able to give that deft touch with polish and ease. She never goes beyond her means, and this young voice will develop more splendidly.”
