Swinton Man Prosecuted

Charles E. Cane (30), loading manaiger. of Crossland Street. Swinton, pleaded guilty at Rotherham West Riding Court on Monday to a summons for stealing timber to the value of 12s.,the property of Dale, Brown and Co. Ltd.

P.c. Sanderson said that on December 4th he saw the defendant at Swinton carrying some timber on his shoulder towards his home. When witness stopped him the defendant said the timber was his own property. It was found that Cane had taken the timber from the works of Dale. Brown and Co. Ltd., by whom he was employed. and had not got permission to take it.

When charged the defendant said ” I am very sorry, I did it on the spur of the moment.

The defendant was dealt with under the Probation of Offenders Act, and ordered to ‘pay 15s. costs.
