Swinton Crushed.
Thorncliffe’s Easy Victory.
Swinton received a severe check on Saturday at the hands of Thorncliffe. Leach, the Wednesday footballer, being main responsible for their downfall.
Thorncliffe were sent in first and did none too well. A poor start resulted in five wickets being down at 5 when Leach joined Hollingsworth and took the score to 106, thus helping Thorncliffe to reach the decent score of 122. Leach scored 45 and Hollingsworth 33. Of the Swinton bowlers. Stancey took four Thorncliffe wickets and Denton three.
Swinton began their batting venture uncertainly, and the first three wickets produced 35 runs. Then the procession began. Swinton could not stand up to the bowling of Leach and Hollingsworth, who, as they did in the batting, so played a greater part in bowling. The last eight Swinton batsmen scored 9 runs, five of them being dismissed for nothing. With nine extras, Swinton’s innings, closed at 53. Leach took 7 wickets for 25 runs and Hollingsworth 2 for 5.
An unfortunate incident .happened while Swinton were fielding. Goddard, in endeavouring to field the ball, was hit on the chin, a nasty -cut being opened. After attention, he was able to resume. Scores :—
