Some New Members

Mexborough

Mr. Arnold Shaw (Lab.), L.N.E.R. fireman , enthusiastic playing member of the Mexborough and Goldthorpe operatic societies, Methodist (P.M.) local preacher, and son of Mr. J. T. Shaw, a member of the Wath U.D.C.

Thurnscoe

Mr. Charles Henry Williams, tradesman, former chairman of Wath LL.P., miner at Manvers and Wath Main collieries before the war, served in France and Italy, owing to war wounds could not continue underground working and for some time was a surface worker at Wath Main. Brother of Mr. T. Williams, M.P.

Darfield

Mr Sydney Blackwell (Lab.) miner at Darfield Main, official of local branch of Y.M.A., and closely identified with local football.

Swinton

Mr. Frederick Charles Myers (Lab.), boiler firer at Baker and Bessemer works, secretary of Old Folk’s Treat movement, active member of W.M.C., and organiser of charitable and other events.

Thurnscoe

Mr. Joseph Hughes (Lab.), head teacher of Thurnscoe Junior boys School, vicepresident of Cricket and Hockey sections of Hickleton Main Athletic Club, N.U.T. delegate to West Riding Association of Teachers, and keen all-round sportsman.

Darfield

M R. Fred Bly (Lab.), a mineworker at Houghton Main, surfacemen’s re- presentative in the Iocal branch of the. Y.M.A. A keen W.E.A. student, and keen gardener and poultry keeper.

Swinton

Mr. William Henry Hudson (Lab.), engine winder at Kilnhurst Colliery, branch secretary of National Winding Enginemen’s Society, an enthusiastic worker at Wesleyan Reform Church.

Wombwell

Mr. Thomas Bradley (Lab.), Railway signalman, forty years association with trade unionism, served three years on Council from 1927 to 1930, native of Cheshire.

Wath

Mr. George Price ( Ind.), manager of  Manvers Main No 1 Pit Since 1926, native of Mexboro’ educated at Mexboro’ National & secondary schools and studied mining at Sheffield University, president of Swinton Athletic club and captain of Swinton’s Yorkshire Council team.
