Swinton’s New Town Hall
The photographs show views of Highfield Rouse, Swinton, and its grounds, which have been acquired by the Swinton Urban District Council from Earl Fitzwilliam for the nominal sum of £1000, for use as a town hail and for other public and municipal purposes.
The late tenant, Mr. F. L. Harrop, who has just retired from the post of clerk to the Swinton Urban Council, has presented to the town all the property he held in the grounds, including a most valuable collection of plants, trees, etc.
The house will be fitted and furnished for use as the headquarters of the Council, and offices for some of the officials, and the grounds will be adapted for use as a place of public resort. A tennis court will be converted into a bowling green.
It is also possible that a bandstand will be erected, and that the town’s War Memorial may find lodgment there. The grounds are about seven acres in extent.
