A crane driver in civilian life employed by Messrs Baker and Bessemer Ltd, Private Frank Hayes, Highland Light Infantry, eldest son of Mr and Mrs Albert Hayes, 3 Crown St, Swinton is a member of the champion cooking team of the “Desert Rats” Division. He will be 25 tomorrow (Saturday).

Private Hayes, whose father is a blacksmith at Wath Main Colliery, joined the Forces in 1944 after service with Messrs Baker and Bessemer since he was 14. Two years ago he was transferred to Bad Lipstadt Germany and like Army life very much.
