Swinton Tramcar Scene
At the Rotherham West Riding Court, yesterday, Edward Brewster (23), miner, of Swinton, was summoned for having assaulted Annie Jacques, a conductress, and William George Shaw, a motorman, employed by the Mexboro’ and Tramways Co., Ltd., at Swinton, on August 12th.
Mr. E. J. Twigg, who prosecuted, stated that in the course of dispute about fares defendant struck the conductress a heavy blow on the mouth, causing it to bleed and swell. She stopped the car, and called Shaw, who asked the defendant for his name, and also why had hit woman.
Defendant used a threat and gave him two blows in the face.
The Chairman (Mr. W. Dyson) said the defendant would be committed to prison for three months on each summons, the terms to be concurrent.
