Swinton Teacher in British Badminton Championships
Last week-end, Miss. M. Bissett, Physical Education Mistress at Swinton County Secondary School, brought honour to her school and South Yorkshire, when she was invited to pay in the All-England Badminton Championship at the Empire Pool, Wembley – a highlight of the English Badminton year, when the top English players have the opportunity to test their skill against players from all over the world.
Miss Bissett travelled down to London on Thursday, and although she and her doubles partner Mrs. J. Evans (Headingly), were defeated in the preliminary rounds they gave their opponents a hard fight before going down 18-16 and 15-8.
Miss Bissett, who has been a keen badminton play for many years, has been a member of Rotherham Badminton Club for the past seven years, and for the past year has also been a member of Wath Badminton Club,
A member of the County team for a number of years, Miss Bissett, and her doubles partner were honored in December when they were invited to play in a tournament in London, with a view to selection for the England team, but they were unnamed in the final selection.
Last month, the couple were more successful, when they won the women’s doubles in the Yorkshire restricted tournament.
