Swinton Sportsman Leaves in August

Swintonian, Mr Ted Petts, member of the staff of Mexborough Roman Terrace Junior School and Wath Yorkshire Council all-rounder is to go to America for a year at the end of August. He will teach at a Connecticut County Day  School, science and Association Football.

The  latter is a feature of his future post whichdelights him considerably. “It’s a game that’s played at the school, and I’d like to think that I could take some part in its development,” he said yesterday (Thursday).

Mr Petts played cricket for Swinton Athletic Yorkshire Council side, and is present vice-captain of the Wath team. He represented Yorkshire Schoolboys at rugby, he has been a swimming instructor at St. Luke’s College. Exeter, where he trained as a teacher, and he took an active part in sport when  he did his National Service with the Navy.

Mr Petts taught for a year at Dolcliffe Road School before moving to Roman Terrace Junior School four years ago. He lives in Rockingham Road. Swinton, and his wife Margaret will go out to join him later. Both Mr and Mrs Petts n are former students of Wath Grammar School. “I am going on a year’s contract. as do all teachers in America. If we like it we shall stay there, he said.
