Swinton Pass “Salute” Target
Chance for a Record
Swinton and Kilnhurst have saluted the soldier this week by passing their £50,000 Salute the Soldier Week target already by over £1,000. Last night the total was £51,000 of which £21,000 was in small savings. If the small savers keep this up this weekend there is a possibility that their share in this effort will be a record.
Miss D. Allen has wound up her Tank Fund and the money (£91 11s 11d) has been given to the nation.
Opening Ceremony
The Week was officially opened at Harrop Gardens on Saturday by Brigadier G. S. Nelson, M.C. who also took the salute at a march past of Army and A.T.S. personnel, Home Guards, Army Cadets, A.T.C., Sea Cadets, Boy Scouts; Wolf Cubs, Girl Guides, Brownies, G.T.C., Women’s Junior Air Corps, Civil Defence and Fire services and Wath Town Band.
A reminder that they were only being asked to lend, and not to give, was given to the citizens of Swinton and Kilnhurst.
