Swinton Man’s 33 Years’ Service

Mr Mark Bullock (63), of 104, William Street, Swinton, oldest member of the staff at the Mexborough offices of the Ministry of Labour, retired after 33 years service on April 2nd.

He started with the department in 1926 and is an insurance clerk.

A native of Mexborough, Mr. Bullock worked for 17 years at Mexborough glass works becoming cashier. His grandfather, who contested local elections in 1875 and father, Mr. George Bullock, who stood for election to the Urban Council In 1911, were both employed at , the glassworks. Mr. George Bullock was manager of the works.

During the 1914-18 war Mr, Mark Bullock saw service with the York and Lancaster Regiment In the Middle East and served with the Civil Defence during the last war.

For 10 years he has being a Special Constable in the Swinton Section and is secretary of the Swinton branch of the British Legion.
