Swinton Man serving in Tripoli

Photographed as he joked was an Arab employee, Craftsman Carl Crookes is following his trade as toolmaker with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in Tripoli.

His wife, Ida, lives with her parents, Mr and Mrs A. Shaw, at 79 Frederick C: Mexborough.

His parents Mr and Mrs O Crookes, live close by at 34, Valley Road, Swinton.

Formally employed by Briggs bodies Ltd, Karl joined the R.E.M.E. on national service last March.

He arrived in Tripoli shortly before Christmas and is now settled down in a former Italian barracks close to the Mediterranean.

“I’ve learnt a great deal about my trade in the Army,” he claims confidently.
