Swinton Doctor’s Death.
The death has occurred after a long illness, of Dr. Clement Samuel Blythman, Milton Street, Swinton, aged 74.
Dr. Blythman leaves a widow, two daughters (Mrs. Kerr, wife of Major W. S. Kerr, of Sheffield, and Miss Alice K. Blythman), and one son, Dr. A. E. Blythman, who is in Australia.
The late Dr. Blythman was one of the two surviving sons of the late Dr. Robert Otter Blythman, who established a practice in Swinton in 1824, and was joined in it by his son in 1866. He was educated at Epsom College, King’s College, London and Edinburgh University. He married a daughter of the late Mr. J. D. Ellis. of Thurnscoe. Hall, for over fifty years identified with the firm of John Brown and Co., Ltd., principally as managing director.
Dr. Blythman was for some years medical officer for the Swinton district of the Rotherham Union, and also surgeon to the Manvers Main Colliery Company and the South Yorkshire Coalowners’ Association, and honorary surgeon to the Montagu Hospital, Mexboro ‘.
For many years he took a deep interest in cricket. He assisted both the Swinton Amateurs and the Mexboro’ Amateurs, and later the Swinton Cricket Club, of which he was president for some years.
He was a Conservative and a Churchman, and held office for a number of years as sidesman in the Swinton Parish Church.
His only surviving brother, the Rev. A. W. Blythman, is Rector of Shenington, Banbury.
