Swinton Boy’s Offence.
Stole From Mother and Brother.
At the Rotherham West Riding Police Court on Tuesday, before Mr E Rose ( in the chair) and Sir, T. Beedan.
A boy aged 14 years, living with his parents at Charles street, Swinton, was charged with having stolen a stairs carpet, value 17s 6d and £2 10s in cash, the property and money of his mother, on Sept. 14.
The boy was further charged with having stolen five £1 Treasury notes, notes, the money of his brother, on Sep. 14.
A brother of the defendant said the boy had taken the carpet out of his mother’s bedroom, and had got the money from mothers box. The five Treasury notes had been stolen from his cash box, which the defendant had broken open.
Evidence was given that the boy had pawned the stairs carpet for 5s.
The boy admitted having taken the stairs carpet, but denied that he took the money.
The defendants brother said it was not desired to press the case.
The magistrates bound the boy over in the sum of £10 to be of good behaviour for two years.
