Swinton batted first, but made little-use of a perfect wicket. They were dismissed in 90 minutes for 79 runs. P. Rawlin bowled magnificently and took six wickets for 41. A Vickers, too, did well to take 3 for 14. H Dobson and G Baines were the only batsmen to reach double figures, and between them they obtained 57 runs.

R Burkinshaw and F Newton knocked off the runs in 45 minutes without being parted.
