With only a few minutes to spare and after the sixth, seventh and eighth reached wickets had fallen at 119, Swinton reached  146 without further loss to win a time-limit game at home against Thorncliffe.

The visitors in two hours and ten minutes made 143 for seven (W Ainsley 28. F Hollingsworth 24, I Baxter 23 and A Mellor 22). E. Cadman, for Swinton, took 4 for 40.

I. Ellison (11 not out), and F. Ellis (13 not out) hit the runs to remedy the Swinton batting slump. Chief Swinton scorers were G. Barnett (47), W. B. Broadhead (32), and C. Lee (20) against bowling returns of 3 for 25 and 3 for 50 by E. Fletcher and E. Earnshaw.

Rotherham’s Big Score at Mexborough.

An unbeaten century and half – century by two Rotherham batsmen turned the scales in Rotherham’s favour  at Mexborough on Saturday. E. Broadbent scored 112 not out and T. Pilley 52 not out.

There was a complete reversal of early form. S. White (49) and O.Wilkinson (33) , made a good first wicket stand, but Mexborough were dismissed for 156; Rotherham started badly, five wickets falling for 61, Broadbent and Pilley pulling the game out of the fire with a grandstand for Rotherham to put on 221 without further loss.

Young Rockingham Batsman Shines

Rockingham 208 for 5  Brampton  73

Rockingham secured a conspicuous victory over Brampton in their feast match at Hoyland Common on Saturday.

Rockingham made 208 45 and declared.  Brian Ivill,  son of Rockingham’s captain, hit up 79 in 50 minutes, and his score included a six and 13 fours. He was well supported by Joseph Moxon, who 57 included nine fours. These to put on 101 for the third wicket. Brampton’s reply was 73. G.A.Grant took five for 23 and F. Fish three for 32.

Gallant Wath Recovery.

Wath, visiting Elsecar, on Saturday, secured a well-deserved victory after disastrous start.

Elsecar put on 87, F Ward 13, R Bamforth 12, H Northcliffe 10. Fearn, for Wath, had 4 for 24 .

Both Wath’s opening batsmen were dismissed by Bob White for one, and when three wickets when 45 runs defeat seemed certain. With the score at 24 for 4, J. C. Heaton and W. Brooks put on 56 for the fifth wicket. Brooks had reached 37 when he fell to Sid Lloyd. Heaton was not out 21, and the winning hit was a clean cut boundary stroke by Fearn which lifted the score to 88. Bob White, for Elsecar, bowled through the innings and had three wickets for 20.

Denaby’s Good Recovery.

In a drawn game against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, Denaby and Cadeby who had four wickets down for 26, made a fine recovery, and were able to declare at 173 for 8 wickets.

Chief credit for this was due to Robinson, cousin of the Yorkshire player-39, with six 4’s—and Wardle, who hit ten 4’s in 54. They put on 89 in 55 minutes, 50 coming in 19 minutes at one period. Ellis (18), Vickers (17) and Allen (21 not out) also batted well. United scored 152 for 6 wickets—Cummins a chanceless 64, Oswald 39 not out, and B. Wragg 22.
