Champions in Good Form
Swinton playing their first home game of the season, against Elsecar, had a good seven wickets win on Saturday.
Elsecar were all out for 101. Evans again being top scorer with 31 and the Rev. H. J. Barnard making 30 and Bob White 20. For Swinton S. Squires, a Mexborough Secondary School boy, was the most successful bowler with 4 for 11, Ellis taking 3 for 41. Eustace 2 for 18, and Vickers 1 for 26.
Swinton had no trouble in knocking off the runs for the loss of only three wickets. H. Parkin playing a splendid innings of 46 not out and Hadfield 22, and Barnett 11. The Swinton wickets were taken by Hudson (1 for 28), Burgin (1 for 21) and White (1 for 34).
Mexborough Win after Being Sent In
Mexborough won at Rockingham on Saturday by 129 runs.
The home team sent Mexborough in and L. Dawson and Plummer put on 43 for the second wicket. D. Brown and Dawson took the total to 73 for three, and Dawson was unlucky to be caught on the boundary with his score at 47. C. Guest, Mexborough’s wicket-keeper hit six sixes and six fours in a masterful 73, and the innings closed at 192. For Rockingham, Broadbent took 7 wickets for 75.
Rockingham were soon in difficulties for Padley and Mullen took the first two wickets for 15 runs. Only Moxon (20 not out) resisted S. Padley (7 wickets for 40) and J. Mullen (3 for 30), the home side being all out for 63.
