Stolen Turnips.
Swinton Man Fined.
For having stolen seven turnips, valued 1 shilling, from a field belonging to Thomas Sharpley, farmer, both Swinton, on January 7, Tom Hargreaves (30), miner, Swinton, was fined five shillings at Rotherham West Riding Police Court on Monday.
P.C.making said at 2:30 AM on Saturday, January 7, he was in Fitzwilliam Street, Swinton, when he saw the prisoner.
Hargreaves Jackie was bulky, and when witness asked him what he was concealing he produced a turnip. Witness found a number of others round his waist.
Hargreaves admitted having taken the turnips from a field belonging to Mr Sharpley.
Defendant in court pleaded guilty.
