Stole Cycle

Swinton Man Sent To Gaol

Jack Burns, miner, of Swinton, was sent to prison for three months at Doncaster Borough Police Court on Saturday for stealing a bicycle from outside a store in Baxtergate. Doncaster. Two other charges of stealing cycles, one from Pontefract Race’ course, and the other from Lan-gold, were taken into consideration.

Inspector Wells said the cycle was offered for sale in Sheffield the same day it was stolen. Burns was eventually arrested on Monday at Swinton, when he admitted the offence. Parts of the cycle were recovered from his home.

Burns said he had not been able to work through illness, and had had to sell the household goods to pay his rent. He stole the cycles because he needed money.
