Sporting Schoolman.
Builder of District’s Best Team.
Bevis Watson Baker.

Mr. Bevis Watson Baker, who is in charge of athletics at the Swinton Bridge Schooi, produced last season a school football team of record quality and achievement.

The school won all the local trophies for which they competed: the Mexboro’ League Championship shield, the Montagu Shield, the Bond Shield, and the Rawson Cup.

In 1906 Mr. Baker joined the staff of the school and he immediately devoted a good deal of spare time to football. In those days Bridge School had one of the most formidable local elevens.

Mr. Baker Bevis Watson Baker was one of the founder-members of the Mexborough Schools Association and since has held the positions of chairman and vice-chairman.

He is popular with the boys and is able to get the best out of them. Several players who have “got on” owe much to his careful training.

He has devoted a good deal of time, too, to other sports. There are in the school the holders of the Wombwell St. John Ambulance brigade Relay Cup, Fullerton Hospital Cup, and David Haigh Cup. Gittins the boy who ran at the school sports meeting at Stamford Bridge. got the two last named trophies.
