Brothers Met In Holland
Two Swinton brothers, L/Bdr. James Sidney Hirst (29), R.A. and Spr. H. Hirst (26) R.E. serving with the B.L.A. met recently in Holland.
They are the sons of Mrs. and the late Mr. E. Hirst of 7, Duke Street, Swinton. After L/Bdr. Hirst had learned that his brother was at a point 30 miles away, he went on a motor cycle to see him, and they were able to spend an hour and a half together. L/Bdr. Hirst has been in the Army for 3 ½ years and has served in North Africa, Sicily and Italy, and his brother has had nearly 4 years’ service.
Both men have been slightly wounded while serving with the B.L.A. L/Bdr. Hirst receiving facial wounds and shrapnel in the arm, and Spr Hirst shrapnel in his chin when he was in Belgium. Before joining the Forces the brothers were miners at Wath Main Colliery.
Spr. Hirst is married and his wife lives with her parents at 39 Greenwood Road, Kilnhurst.
