Service Notes
Relatives of Sapper C. Bentham (picture) , 13, Griffin Road, are anxious about his welfare, as he was stationed in Hong Kong.
There is the cheering possibility that he had left before hostilities began because he was expecting furlough after three years’ service in the Far East. His last letter received recently was dated October 10th.
Earlier this year a message from his family was broadcast to him and was clearly heard.
Sergt. J. Harrison, whose mother lives in Slade Road, will consider himself fortunate. He arrived in England, with his wife and two children, from Hong Kong a month ago, after serving three years there.
Two Swinton men are in Malaya, Alan Foster, of 42, Charles Street, and Stanley Wood, of White Lee Road: and Joseph Wilson, of William Street, is in Burma.
Mr. E. T. John, of St. Margaret’s Drive, serving in Gibraltar, was promoted Captain recently. During the last war he served in Palestine.
Pte. Douglas Cavill, who was amongst the first of our troops in Iceland, is here on leave
