Bombardier Tyas, 17 Spencer St, Wath Road, Swinton, has been awarded the Milltary Medal for bravery in the field.

The award appears in a divisional order, dated Oct. 21.   From a letter received by his parents from Bdr. Tyas it appears that the Medal was earned during the taking of Cambrai. Bdr. Tyas has been serving throughout the war, and has been in France for over four years, having received the Mons Star.

His father is well known In local musical circles, and was for some years conductor of the Mexborough Plant Band and the Mexborough Concertina Band.

Bdr. Tyas was formerly, employed at the Wath Main Colliery.
