Letter from Prisoner.
A letter received from Sapper William Taylor (28), by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Taylor, of 76, Charles Street, Swinton, this week informs them that he is very fit and is hoping to be home by Christmas “at the latest.”
Sapper Taylor, who was a Territorial before the war, was taken prisoner in May last year just before the evacuation of Dunkirk.
He was educated at Swinton Bridge School and before joining up worked at Dale, Brown and Co., Ltd., Swinton. In his letter Sapper Taylor says it is impossible for him to thank each individual person for the kindness which has been shown to him, and for the good wishes and gifts sent to him at Christmas. He particularly wished to thank Miss F. I. Gillett, Mr. Gough and the Swinton Women’s Conservative Comforts Fund.
Sapper Taylor’s father during the last war was wounded and mentioned in a dispatch on May 21st, the same date that his son was taken prisoner last year.
