Soldier – Sharp, Albert John – Died in Casualty Station

October 1917

Mexborough and Swinton Times October 13, 1917

Private Albert John Sharp
Notts and Derby

Private Sharp, adopted son of Mr and Mrs Frank Sharp, of 9 Victoria Terrace, died in a casualty clearing station in France on September 27, of wounds received in action on the previous day.

Mr and Mrs Sharp have received a message of sympathy from the sister in charge of the clearing station, who says:

“He had a very serious shell wound in the chest, penetrating his lung. He was only semiconscious at the time of his death, so could leave no message. He died quite peaceably and free from pain, and was buried with military honours in a small cemetery where so many of our fine men are lying.”

Private Sharp was 20 years of age, and enlisted last February, going to France in May.

Before enlistment he was employed at Manvers Main
