Corporal Pilley, who as reported last week died of wounds received, in action on. August 26, was the only son of Mr. Fred Pilley, grocer 21, Fitzwilliam street, Swinton, and Mrs. Pilley, and was 20 years of age.

He was only 17 when he enlisted, and before enlistment he was on the clerical staff of Messrs. Whitworth, Son and Nephew, Wath on Dearne.

He was drafted , to France in Jan1917, and was home on leave last March. He was wounded on

August 28, 1918, and died at a field ambulance
