Rifleman Lobley, 4, Victoria street, Wath Road, Swinton, was killed in action in France on August 28.

His parents have received a letter from an officer who states:

“Your son was killed instantaneously by a machine gun bullet, while in the act of doing his duty. He will be sadly miss by his platoon and company, as he was always, so cheerful and ever ready to help.”

Rfn. Lobley was the second son. of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Laley, and was 20 years cf age. He enlisted early in 1915 when under age and being returned from the Army he re-enlisted in November last, going to the Front in April.

He was formerly employed at the Kilnhurst Steel Works.
