Safe Bathing

Swinton Soldier Swims in Dead Sea

Safe bathing was the boast of many a seaside resort but the place where this picture was taken can boast the safest bathing in the world.

It is the Dead Sea in Palestine and seen reclining in its salty waters are Driver William Hebbs (on the left), of 51, White Lee Road, Swinton, and two of his Service pals.

So salty is the water in this inland sea that a man can float in it without danger of sinking,

Driver Hebbs is 32 and has served three years in the Middle East with the R.A.S.C., joining the Army the day before war broke out. He is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. W Hebbs, 16, White Lee Road, Swinton, and was formerly employed as a driver by Messrs. Ward and Son, Swinton.
