Billeted On Farm

Called up as an Army reservist, Pte. W. Goulder, of 201, Queen Street, Swinton, is serving in France, and went abroad on September 2nd. Pte. Goulder is the second son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Goulder, of Albert Street, Swinton, and he received his calling up notice three weeks before war was declared. He had previously served in India for six years in the Royal Artillery, from 1920 to 1926.

Since then he has been employed as a collier at Wath Main Colliery, and has one son and one daughter. His wife, Mrs. R. Goulder, has received several letters from him, and he states in one of these that he is billeted on a farm.

Despite the fact that he is having “quite a good time” in France, he writes that he wishes he were back, bringing home his wage packet each week.
