Two pals who joined the army together, three years ago are Signaller John Lewis Yates (37) of 42, Hartley Street, Mexborough, and Gunner Walter Dunstan (36) (picture) of 28, White Lea Road, Swinton.

Signaller Yates has been in El Alamein and in Iraq, and is now in Burma.  He is a brother to Billy Yates, one of Mexborough’s best-known boxers.

Gunner Dustan has been in India, and is now in Italy.
