Private Joseph F Currier
(York and Lancaster)
Son of Mr and Mrs F Currier of Queen St, Swinton, who has been missing since July 1, 1916, and is now officially reported killed.
Private Currier was a well-known and popular young man.
He was a member of the Swinton Parish Church choir, and also a member of the Mexborough cricket team.
He was a grandson of Mr W B Edgerton, enginewright at the Manvers Main Collieries.

Killed in action on the 1st of July 1916 (the first day of the battle of the Somme).
Remembered on the Thiepval Memorial, in the Somme region of France, pier and Face 14A and 14B.
