Private Arthur Crowcroft youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. William CroWcroft, Frederick street, Swinton, was killed on the night of Sept. 6,, by an aerial bomb, in France..
He was 29 years of age, and a widower, and leaves two children.
He enlisted in May, 1916, and had been serving in France 18 months. About six months ago he, was slightly wounded by shrapnel.
Before enlistment he was associated with his father in the business of potato merchant, etc. He was a popular and well-known young man, greatly esteemed for his many excellent personal qualities. He was prominently identified with the Mexboro’ Primitive Methodist Church, and a member of the now defunct Mexboro’ and District Operatic Society. His wife, formerly a Miss Thompson, of Mexboro’, died shortly after his enlistment. His sorrowing family havo, received a kindly message of sympathy from their son’s officer, who relates some details of Pte. Crowcroft’s death, which he says was instantaneous.
