Better Than Great War
Signalman W. H. Brown, whose home address is 137 White Lee Road, Swinton, joined the Army at the age of 17, and served for three years and eight months in the Great War. He later served live years in the Royal Artillery (T.A.), for four years as sergeant and seven years in the Supplementary Reserve.
He was called to the Colours last September and was with the first B.E.F. contingent in France.
Signalman Brown has been on leave and speaks highly of the conditions compared with those of the Great War. A copy of the “Times” is sent to every week by a friend, and writing to thank him, he says, “I look forward to the ‘Times’ very much, as it is a great link with home.”
Before being called up he worked for the L.M.S. Railway. He is married and has two boys. He is a member of St. Michael’s Church choir, and while home on leave attended the services in his usual place in the choir.
